As founder and principal
of Thompson Management Associates,
LLC, Joseph Thompson brings over thirty years of experience
in executive leadership
and association management to the firm.
Prior to forming TMA, he served as Vice President for Program
Development for a multiple management company providing
services to trade associations and professional societies nation-
wide. In that capacity, Mr. Thompson served as Executive Vice
President for four national trade associations and one professional
society, and directed program development, marketing and
training activities for the company.
Mr. Thompson served as Senior Vice President for Research and Program Development for one of the nation's oldest and most respected philanthropic organizations, and as Executive Director for several not-for-profit associations. He has extensive skill and experience in managing a variety of association functions, including membership development, marketing, financial development, community relations, program design and implementation, leadership training, conference and convention management, and volunteer relations.
A skilled communications trainer, Mr. Thompson has provided numerous seminars and workshops to volunteer leaders of philanthropic organizations, trade associations and other not-for-profit organizations. As a professional director for YMCA's in Boston and Washington, DC, he has managed capital development campaigns, annual support fund raising efforts, and developed and managed annual operating budgets exceeding four million dollars.
Mr. Thompson is a member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), the Association Executives Council of the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors (NAW), the Council of Manufacturing Associations (CMA) of the National Association of Manufacturers, the Advisory Board of the Marine Industry Technical Education Council (MITEC) and served as Treasurer of the Salvation Army of Annapolis. He has served as a director on numerous Boards, and is active in civic and professional associations. Mr. Thompson received his BA degree from the University of Massachusetts - Boston, and a Masters Degree (M.Ed.) in non-profit administration from Springfield College in Massachusetts.
Kristin Thompson serves as TMA's Director of Communication,and brings
over
twenty-five years of experience in business management, financial
development,
campaign management, conference management, and
editorial and writing services
to meet the needs of client associations
and societies.
As an experienced
speechwriter, editor, and public relations manager in
both the public and
private sectors, Ms. Thompson provides editorial
leadership and publications
management for client newsletters,
publications and marketing materials.
Ms. Thompson received
her AB Degree in Government from Wheaton
College (Massachusetts),
and has taken graduate courses in Not-for-
Profit Administration at the
University
of Maryland.
In addition to over twelve years of experience in political campaign management, she has also served as Accounting Office Supervisor for WGBH Educational Foundation, the Boston affiliate of the Public Broadcasting Service. Most recently, Ms. Thompson served in a variety of positions for the Maryland Department of Legislative Reference, in support of the state legislature, where she managed the writing and production of daily bill synopses.
Additionally, she coordinated
the International and Educational Programs Services for the Maryland General
Assembly, arranging and conducting educational programs for international
visitors, adults, and student groups visiting Maryland's state capital.
